Car accidents are an unfortunate occurrence that can lead to countless issues, including physical injuries. Sometimes pain from these injuries can show up immediately or even take a few days. There are a few common back injuries that can result from a car accident, including herniated discs, spinal stenosis, and facet syndrome. Each of these injuries can cause a large of amount of discomfort and pain that can be easily treated by our chiropractors. Read on to learn about each injury and their symptoms.
Herniated Disc
A herniated disc occurs when the soft cushion-like part of the spine pushes out from its original position. In a car accident, the force of the crash can cause a disc to move out of place. If you have a loss of strength or pain in your back, arm, or leg, you may have a herniated disc.
Spinal Stenosis
Spinal stenosis usually occurs from a trauma, especially car accidents. Compression of the nerves and spinal cord comes as a result of the narrowing of the spinal canal. This compression can cause several symptoms and the location of any pain (back, hand, arm, leg, foot, etc.) is related to the location of the stenosis. Spinal stenosis can also cause numbness or tingling, general weakness, cramping, and problems walking or keeping balanced.
Facet Syndrome
Facet Syndrome can also be caused by injury or trauma. Facet joints are the points of contact between vertebra–when these joints are damaged, it can result in pain on one side of the spine, and sometimes general weakness and numbness or tingling.
